Some video poker machines have added a new feature called the “double up”. The player has the option of risking their single hand winnings for a chance to double it. If you choose to risk yourwin, the machine will deal you 5 cards. The first card is face up, and the remaining 4 cards are face down.
The objective is for the player to select one of the 4 face down cards and beat the first face up card. If the card you pick is lower, you lose your initial bet. If your card is the same, youpush. No money is won, but you don’t lose your initial bet either. If you select a higher card, you double your money.
With a win or a push, you have the option of doubling up again. You would risk your whole win and the machine will deal you 5 more cards. You can continue to double up as many times as you want,so long as you are winning (or pushing).

Sounds fun, right? It isn’t! Never (and I really mean never) use the double up feature. Once you have won a hand, don’t give the casino a statistical advantage to take that win back. Experiencedvideo poker players will always avoid this feature. Why risk what you’ve already won on a decreased chance of doubling your money? Instead, use your winnings to play another hand, where everyhand has a chance of a royal flush. Let’s not forget that a royal flush with max coins bet pays 800-1.
